I will probably not be in class Tuesday, as I am traveling for business. So I'm posting my homework here. As you recall, the assignment was to create a particular dynamic by adding stage direction to these six rather neutral lines of dialogue:
A: Nice day.
B: Glad to see you.
A: I have your stuff.
B: Okay. Thanks.
A: We should have lunch.
B: Okay. Call me.
Here is my effort:
INT. SARAH'S APARTMENT-DAY
SARAH is REMOVING PHOTOGRAPHS FROM THEIR FRAMES. Several empty frames are hung on the wall, and a stack of photos has accumulated on the kitchen counter. She is using a screwdriver from a SMALL TOOLBOX to pry the back off a frame when DARREN enters. He is CARRYING A BOX full of books, compact discs, a T-shirt.
DARREN
Nice day.
Sarah gathers the sheaf of photographs from the counter. Darren appears in each picture. She holds them out to Darren.
SARAH
Glad to see you.
Darren places the box on the counter.
DARREN
I have your stuff.
Ignoring the photos, he takes a ring of keys from his pocket and WORKS OFF A SINGLE KEY. He places the key next to the box. Sarah shrugs and DROPS THE PHOTOS into the box.
SARAH
Okay. Thanks.
Darren hesitates, his business completed but not sure how to leave gracefully.
DARREN
We should have lunch.
Sarah, without looking at Darren, retrieves her MOBILE PHONE from her purse on the counter. She takes a HAMMER from the toolbox, and placing the phone on the counter, POUNDS THE PHONE TO PIECES with a few blows.
SARA
Okay. Call me.
